SBPD monthly crime stat meeting giving residents space to be heard
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department (SBPD) shared Feb. and March 2025 crime statistics at their monthly Community stat meeting Wed. evening.
The meeting featured intel from both months after March’s meeting was canceled due to another SBPD event.
SBPD Community Resource Officer, Joseph Cole said the meetings offer a platform for residents to speak with officers face-to-face, hear what criminal activity is taking place in their neighborhoods, and how the department is adjusting based off community concerns and feedback.
“Us as community resource officers, we’re listening to what their complaints are and depending on what those complaints are, we absolutely can bring those to that command staff meeting and then allocate or adjust resources depending on what those complaints are,” said Cole.
Cole explained they are hoping to offer privacy to residents during these monthly meetings, in a goal to further build transparency and trust between the community and department.
“Privacy and transparency kind of go hand in hand. You want to be a person that’s known, uh, that’s privately sharing information, but also transparent from our end to address those issues and know we’re gonna address those issues,” said Cole.
SBPD is also getting ready to host their annual fish fry this Fri., April 11 from 4-7 p.m. at FOP lodge #36. To get more information, click here.
