ELKHART, Ind. -- Dr. Larry Huff, now former superintendent of Elkhart Community Schools, has exited his position sooner than previously announced.

According to a release from the district, it was originally scheduled to transfer the role to current assistant superintendent Michele Riise on July 1st. Due to Huff's early departure, she will serve as interim superintendent prior to formal board approval later this month. In the statement, Dr. Huff said the following: 

“It has been an honor to serve Elkhart Community Schools. Together, we made important decisions to better support students and strengthen the future of the district. I am grateful for the dedication of our staff, families, and community, and I am confident the district will continue to build on this progress.”

Since assuming the role in mid-2024, Dr. Huff has overseen significant changes in the district, including the recent district restructuring that will see multiple schools close and consolidate.
