South Bend Community Police Review Board met Thursday night
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department (SBPD) and the South Bend Fire Department (SBFD) joined together to gather donations for hurricane victims, that will be delivered by South Bend police officers and firefighters.
In just a matter of days, SBPD says the amount of donations from the South Bend community is beyond expectations, enough items to fill more than one large truck.
While donations have until 11 p.m. Friday to be dropped off in the SBPD lobby, SBPD explained they are looking for some highly needed items, such as baby products, regular batteries and car batteries, and fans.
SBPD also explained they strongly need empty boxes, asking the community to bring any boxes they can as they start to load the trucks.
They explained those donations will be delivered to where they are most needed in the affected hurricane areas by South Bend police officers and firefighters late this weekend or early Monday.
McKinnies Realty at 1632 E. Day Road in Mishawaka has also offered to serve as a donation drop-off site until Friday when those items are due back to SBPD.
Other needed items:
- Non-perishable food
- Diapers
- Wipes
- Bottled water
- Toilet paper
- Batteries
- Blankets
- Over the counter pain relievers
- Baby formula
- Toiletries
- Feminine hygiene products
- paper towels / plates
