South Bend school district releases plan for closing, consolidating...
SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- The Board of the South Bend Community School Corporation moved Monday to postpone a vote on a return to in-person learning. Officials say they want to give parents more time to review a return to in person class survey before voting.
“I think it was a really smart delay on the part of the Board, frankly,” said Maria McKenna, a South Bend Schools parent. “I think the community needed to hear the plan and our South Bend School Corporation employees needed to hear the plan.”
The vote is now set to take place on September 28th, but St. Joseph County Deputy Health Officer Dr. Mark Fox says that return might be on hold even longer based on recent county COVID numbers.
“Now with some increased cases in some nursing homes that’s a little bit concerning but frankly a lot of that activity is in nursing homes,” said Dr. Fox.
Parents have until midnight on Friday to complete the survey.
