ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The Christmas countdown officially started for two cities Friday evening. Goshen hosted its ‘Hometown Holiday’ Dec. First Fridays, while South Bend kicked off its ‘Downtown for the Holidays’ Dec. First Fridays.
In Goshen, the community came together in downtown for carol singing, free photos with Santa, their Christmas tree lighting, and a Holiday Market.
It was a similar evening over in South Bend, with their tree lighting, fireworks, downtown business deals, and free family activities.
Santa Claus made an appearance at both events, giving a reminder that family is the most important part of the holiday.
“Share a meal or a story from the past… to me that is what Christmas and what the holidays is all about. Mrs. Claus and I have a wonderful time celebrating Christmas together and so anyhow, it’s wonderful to be with family, and of course the elves,” said Santa.
