SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The Saint Joseph County Council passed a new bill last fall that will grant a three-year property tax credit for all homeowners struggling to pay their property taxes.
For the first time in 2024, you can now apply for a tax credit that will help owners save money over the next three years.
Amy Drake, County Council woman, shares how the council has expanded the eligibility requirements, so more people are able to qualify.
“If you are 55 and older, and if you've lived in your house for 10 years, and if you have a homestead, you can have this credit. And for anybody, why wouldn't you want to save some property taxes so to be limited to a 2% tax increase for three years, I think is very beneficial for our taxpayers here in St Joe County," stated Drake.
This tax credit will only be available for the next three years and Saint Joseph County is the first county in the entire state that has taken advantage of the tax cut where all incomes can be eligible.
