Riverside Intermediate grieves the loss of sixth grade student

PLYMOUTH, Ind. - The Riverside Intermediate school community is grieving the loss of a student who passed away over the weekend.

Sixth grade student, Hailey Huffman was the definition of going above and beyond, said the Plymouth Community School Corporation in a press release Monday afternoon.

"It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we inform you that a sixth-grade student at Riverside Intermediate, Hailey Huffman, passed away earlier this weekend. Our entire school community’s thoughts and sympathies are with Hailey’s family and friends during this difficult time," the release stated. "Hailey loved to draw. She enjoyed arts and crafts. She was a science enthusiast, a friend to many, and a proud member of the orchestra as a violin player. Hailey was a writer—for a recent essay, she wrote a 21-page story, 19 pages longer than the teacher’s expectation. She was the definition of going above and beyond."

Students were informed today of Huffman's passing as Dustin's Place, Bowen Center and school counselors were available for students and families to express their grief.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to Hailey’s family and friends and ask that you respect their privacy at this time," the school wrote.
