UPDATE: All lanes of U.S. 20 Bypass open and clear following crash involving INDOT truck
UPDATE: The St. Joseph County Police Department reports everything is clear, and all lanes have reopened.
UPDATE: The Indiana Department of Transportation provided an update on the crash around 12:35 p.m. on Tuesday, saying one of their maintenance crews was out sweeping the shoulder on the U.S. 20/31 Bypass near Mayflower Road in St. Joseph County when it was involved in a crash this morning.
" ... during National Work Zone Awareness Week ... ?," INDOT wrote in a social media post.
Officials say no injuries were reported from the INDOT crew, but the driver who rear ended an INDOT attenuator was taken to the hospital.
"Attenuators are meant to absorb the impact of a crash, and in this situation, this attenuator saved our crew from a potentially bad outcome," INDOT officials said.
"We're not official crash investigators, but you can see for yourself how far the vehicle continued after it struck the attenuator trailer on the left side of the road before rolling over and coming to a rest in the field on the right side of the road."
