Elkhart invites community to help plant 600 trees in October
City of Elkhart Parks & Recreation ELKHART, Ind. -- The city of Elkhart invites the community to help meet their goal of planting 600 trees during The 3-Day Tree Blitz.
Plantings will take place in three different locations during the month of October:
Saturday, October 3, 10 a.m. – Noon at Hiawatha Drive & 6th Street
Sunday, October 11, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at 1400 Hudson Street
Monday, October 12 , 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at 608 Oakland Avenue
No experience is required, and planting holes will already be dug. The Elkhart Parks & Recreation and the Elkhart Environmental Center are looking for volunteers to just show up and plant. "Whether you come with a group, bring your friends, or simply show up on your own, every tree planted makes a difference,” said Mandi Null, Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Elkhart Parks & Recreation.
Tools and gloves will be provided.
The Elkhart Parks & Recreation Root Crew will provide water and snacks.
The 3-Day Tree Blitz is part of a larger goal to plant 1,000 trees in 2026 for the Trees for the Hart initiative. The city of Elkhart received a grant to ultimately plant 2,000 trees around the community by 2028. “We’ve already made incredible progress toward our goal, but we need the community’s help to get the rest of the way there,” said Null.
