UPDATE: Early Thursday morning crash leaves 75-year-old Westville man dead

UPDATE TWO: The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash around 8:48 a.m., Thursday, in the 800-north block of US 421.

Authorities' initial on-scene investigation determined a 1999 Ford Ranger, driven by 75-year-old Terry A. Churchill of Westville, was traveling north on US 421.

Deputies say Churchill then drove off the east side of the road before striking an embankment and a tree before coming to a stop.

Churchill was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

UPDATE: The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports the section of US 421 between the Indiana Toll Road and I-94 has reopened.

ORIGINAL STORY: LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports US 421 between the Indiana Toll Road and I-94 is closed due to a crash investigation as of 10:30 a.m., Thursday.

Authorities say the crash, involving an unknown number of vehicles at this time, occurred near C.R. 100 North on US 421.

The Indiana Department of Transportation Northwest is on scene assisting with blocking traffic.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area due to first responders reporting near whiteout conditions in areas.
