UPDATE: New Road is back open Monday evening after a serious crash involving an SUV and a tractor.

St. Joseph County Police Departments say, initial investigation indicates the SUV was going Westbound on New Road and turned in front of the tractor going Eastbound. 

The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but was stable. 

St. Joseph County Police Department state this investigation is ongoing.

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A vehicle crash with a tractor is being investigated by the St. Joseph County Police Department Monday afternoon.

Police say the serious crash occurred in the area of New and Kenilworth Roads.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Authorities added there are also downed trees and powerlines nearby.
