UPDATE: Roundabout construction to begin on June 9, following NIPSCO delay

UPDATE: County officials say NIPSCO has experienced some unexpected difficulties which will push the Cleveland Road's closure date to June 9.
ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Growth announced construction is set to begin on a roundabout at the intersection of Cleveland and Beech Roads on June 2.
NIPSCO has been working to relocate their underground facilities for the new roundabout, with their work expected to be done by the end of May.
North and southbound traffic will be detoured around the construction by utilizing Bittersweet and Ash Roads.
Traffic will then be directed to Douglas Road to return to normal traffic patterns.
Truck traffic will be directed to McKinley Highway and use both Ash Road and Capital Avenue for north and southbound trucks.
The expected completion date is Oct. 18, and the roundabout will be open with unrestricted traffic.
The Douglas Road detour route is for lightweight traffic, such as cars, SUVs, and pick-up trucks.
For all other trucks including commercial pick-ups, the detour is west on C.R. 6, Cleveland Road to John Weaver Parkway, South to Nappanee Street/IN-19 to west on Bypass Road /Old US 20/McKinley Highway to Capital Avenue, then north to Cleveland Road. In reverse for eastbound traffic.
