ELKHART, Ind. -- “Remembering Rio: Cookies & Canvas for the Heart” is a free, family-centered community event hosted by Rio’s parents, Aaron and Niki Ball, in honor of Rio’s beautiful creativity and joyful spirit. The event is designed especially for youth and families, creating space for healing, expression, and togetherness.

On March 14 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., the community will gather at the Lexington Event Center in Elkhart to mark the four-year anniversary of Rio's passing with a special afternoon of remembrance, creativity, and connection. This event is open to the entire community. Organizers especially encourage youth, including students who attended school with Rio and those impacted by her story, to join in a day centered on creativity, connection, and compassion.

Families attending the event will enjoy free activities and offerings, including:

  • Desserts and refreshments
  • Cookie decorating
  • Community canvas painting
  • Keepsake rock painting
  • Face painting and henna tattoos
  • Board games and music
  • A reflection and poetry corner
  • Community resource vendors
  • The Elkhart Public Library Mobile Bus (providing one free book for every child)

Rio’s life left a lasting impact on many children and families throughout the Elkhart community. This gathering offers a meaningful opportunity to honor her light by pouring love back into the community through art, laughter, and shared experiences.
