SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Portage Pantry is set to open its doors to the Portage Township community for the first time on Tuesday, April 15, and they are always accepting donations to keep the pantry full.
"We have been working diligently here at the Portage Township Trustee Office to establish a food pantry," organizers said. "It’s a fact that many families struggle to make ends meet between the various costs of living. We’re proud to be part of the solution in ensuring that everyone has access to the nourishment they deserve."
Those in need of food assistance can visit the Portage Pantry -- at 340 Columbia Street in downtown South Bend, just behind the post office -- once a month on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to "receive a robust supply of pantry staples," organizers said.
"Those in need are requested to bring their ID and a piece of mail that verifies they are a current resident of Portage Township. If you are unsure if you are a Portage Township resident, feel free to call 574-233-2126 and our front desk will help determine if you live within our boundaries!"
From Portage Pantry:
You can now help us keep our new food pantry stocked without ever having to leave your house! We have an Amazon Wishlist to help make it easier than ever to give back to your community.
Our pantry is still in need of non-perishable food options, such as canned veggies, canned fruit, canned meat, rice, pasta & sauce, and more. For more information, visit our website.
Again, thank you to all who have donated so far, and we look forward to opening our pantry doors later this month!
