Pickup truck hits several mailboxes, crashes into ditch, couple arrested

Austin T. Higgins, Kally N. Rowe

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the 6500-north block of C.R. 400 West for a single vehicle crash around 11:40 p.m. Thursday.

The report states a deputy arrived at the scene and found a pickup truck off the east side of the road in a ditch.

Authorities say there was debris scattered about the area from the truck crashing into several mailboxes before becoming stuck in the ditch.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Austin T. Higgins, exhibited indicators of being impaired and was taken into custody.

The truck's passenger, identified as 30-year-old Kally N. Rowe, was asked to exit the truck, to which she refused.

Deputies say she was asked several more times to exit but continually refused and became increasingly aggressive and belligerent.

Deputies then assisted Rowe out of the truck.

The report states Rowe continued to resist while being taken into custody. She then "projectile spat" in the direction of a deputy, according to the report.

While she was being taken to the La Porte County Jail, Rowe began kicking the deputy's windshield, causing him to pull over and re-secure her while she continued to be non-compliant.

Deputies say when Rowe arrived at the jail, her combative behavior continued with her kicking a jail deputy.

Higgins was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, an A Misdemeanor and C Misdemeanor.

Rowe was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement, an A Misdemeanor, and Disorderly Conduct, a B Misdemeanor.

Rowe remains in the county jail, while Higgins was released after his cash bond was paid.
