Pedestrian injured after being struck on bypass

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a vehicle on the bypass near US-31 on Thursday around noon.

Officials say the driver who hit the pedestrian has been identified as 64-year-old Brian Chamness of Buchanan, Michigan.

Police say that Chamness has been cooperative with investigators.

The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld until the family is notified.

The pedestrian's condition is unknown at this time. 

Toxicology reports are pending, and the crash remains under investigation by the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team.
