SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Street improvements are a priority to both South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Senator David Niezgodski.
Both spoke on the city’s smooth streets, the highway funding bill and an interactive paving website on Monday.
As Portage Avenue is under construction, Mayor Pete wants all South Bend families to know how hard these crews are working to ensure safety.
Mayor Pete also wants people to become involved with this new website where you can see everything that’s under construction at your fingertips.
“While we're paying attention to smart streets, we have not forgotten about the importance of smooth streets. And this is a chance to do that with the pavement program that going to give us 26 lane miles of newly paved roads across the city,” Mayor Pete said.
The construction is on time and on budget this year.
Senator Niezgodski said, “That's what this road funding plan actually does. It' translates into strong, economic, development and that translates into good paying jobs for many workers.”
The Senator also says it’s difficult at times to do these types of increases, but at the same time, he says it’s common sense because these new roads will serve in South Bend for 20 years to come.
