Passengers stranded on train for over 12 hours

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Dozens of Amtrak passengers spent more than 12 hours in a broken down train.

Amtrak says a broken axle on its dining car was to blame.

The train was traveling from New York to Miami when it broke down in Virginia.

It was supposed to get to Richmond Sunday afternoon around 5 p.m. but did not arrive until 7 a.m. on Monday.

"No, I don't need apologies," said Kevin Smith. "All I needed was to continue on the journey and let off the train, that's all."

Amtrak says passengers are not allowed to leave the train if it is stranded between two stations unless there is an emergency.
