Passengers injured in two-vehicle crash, teen driver cited

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the intersection of C.R. 40 and C.R. 21 on Sunday around 10:30 a.m. for a two-vehicle crash.
The report states a 2015 Mini Cooper Countryman, driven by a 42-year-old Elkhart man, was traveling east on C.R. 40 at the intersection of C.R. 21, which has no stop sign for east or westbound traffic.
As the Mini Cooper approached the intersection, a 2014 Buick Verano, driven by 18-year-old Gabrielle Scott of Elkhart, continued south into the intersection from C.R. 21 and into the path of the Mini Cooper.
Authorities say the driver of the Mini Cooper attempted to avoid collision by braking hard, but struck the passenger side of Scott's Buick, causing both vehicles to leave the road and come to a stop in a field southeast of the intersection.
Two passengers, a 13-year-old and a 39-year-old woman, in the Mini Cooper, had complaints of shoulder pain and neck, back, and leg pain respectively.
The passengers were then taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries.
Scott was cited for failing to yield the right of way causing bodily injury.
Deputies say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
