ONLY ON ABC57: A behind the scenes look at Niles Scream Park

NILES, Mich-- For over 50 years Niles Scream Park has found new ways to scare thrill seekers. ABC57's Sidney Moore spoke with the team about what happens when the season comes to a close Nov. 8.

Designs are already in the works for elements like hair, makeup, costumes, props and more. There are seven different attractions with many that get new elements or details each season.

In 2024, the park had close to 40,000 visitors, raising over $140,000.

With over 350 costumes, each worker gets assigned a new roll and outfit each weekend. The next step, hair and makeup in under 20 minutes.

Virgil Taylor, one of the top tier special effects makeup artists, says they mostly use airbrush techniques, some hypo-allergenic makeup, and prosthetics to give these actors a frightful look.

Ross Ratliff, Actor Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, says, "My magical moment is when the attractions are fully staffed and ready to open, and I can hear that first scream."
