ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Fire Department reports crews responded to a structure fire at 512 Sherman St. around 4:52 a.m., Thursday.
Upon arrival, fire crews found the structure to be a one-story wood frame home with heavy fire.
Crews began attacking the fire while other firefighters searched for occupants.
The report states two people had made it out before crews arrived.
One occupant suffered minor burns and was taken to the hospital.
Once the fire was under control, the structure was overhauled and fire officials checked for hidden hotspots.
All of the hotspots were extinguished, and the scene was cleared.
The fire started in the living room, but officials say the cause of fire is currently unknown.
The home did have smoke alarms.
