16-year-old shot and killed on South Carlisle Street in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Police identified the victim shot and killed on South Carlisle Street Monday morning as 16-year-old Luis Hernandez-Acosta of South Bend.
The shooting happened around 1 a.m. near Huron Street.
According to reports, Hernandez-Acosta was shot multiple times and later died.
This shooting is being investigated by the South Bend Police Violent Crimes Unit.

Hernandez-Acosta was a student at Washington High School. Monica Garvey, Assistant Director of Communications with the South Bend Community School Corporation, issued the following statement about his death:
On behalf of our South Bend School community, I want to express my condolences and support to the family and friends of Luis Hernandez-Acosta. Luis died at age sixteen, a tenth grader at Washington High School—another victim of the gun violence crisis that devastates our community.
The shooting is still under active investigation by the South Bend Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit.
