One injured in two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sherriff's Office reports deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at 23409 U.S. 33 in Elkhart around 7:35 a.m., Tuesday.

The report states a 2021 Ford Transit Van, driven by 37-year-old Curtis Christophel of Elkhart, was traveling southeast on U.S. 33 and turned left into 23409 U.S. 33 using the center turn lane.

A 2009 Nissan Versa, driven by a 37-year-old Elkhart man, was traveling northwest on U.S. 33 at 23409 U.S. 33 in the outside lane.

Authorities say as the Nissan was going straight, that's when Christophel turned left in front it, causing the Nissan to strike the front end of the van.

The Nissan's driver complained of chest pain from his seatbelt and was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

Christophel was uninjured.

The Nissan required towing while the van remained in the driveway of 23409 U.S. 33.

Deputies say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

No citations were given.
