Oaktober Fest uses fun to fundraise for local schools
THREE OAKS, Mich. -- The 2nd Annual Oaktober fest will be hosted in Three Oaks where the village is inviting the community to enjoy German cuisine, booze and carnival attractions that turned into a fundraiser to help local schools.
The three-day event will be hosted at the American Legion at 204 Linden St. starting Friday at 5 p.m. through Sunday.
The festival will be a family friendly event full of carnival attractions, carnival food, live music and of course, booze for you to purchase with your carnival tickets that can be purchased to participate in the festive attractions.
Food and drinks will all be donated by RV Mustang Foundation with proceeds going to River Valley Elementary and High Schools to help enhance various school programs.
Carolyn Drier is one of seven Oaktoberfest founders and owner of Drier’s Meat Market in Three Oaks. She said they plan to cater to the needs of their school district outside of their restricted funding to make a difference in their village.
"I’m representing the village, and we really need to have that be a part of this wonderful event for our high school an elementary as well.” said Drier.
Drier’s Meat Market will be providing their well-known sausage, Braut, which Drier says is not your ordinary German sausage because it's already ground and ready to eat.
Don’t forget to try a beer flight and participate in the epic “Battle of the Brewmasters” when spectators get the chance to be the ultimate judge of who will be crowned as this year's Oaktober Fest Brew for Bragging Rights Brewmaster.
The crowd favorite "Battle of the Brewmasters" challenge will consist of three breweries that visitors will sample and then vote to decide who will be crowned this year’s winner as the official Oaktober Fest brew.
Festival organizers say that it takes a village to put together a festival like this and with the help of their community and top-tier festival sponsors.
The last Oaktober Fest hosted 10,000 attendees and raised over $40,000 dollars to invest back into their local education system.
Fifty volunteers have already signed up to execute the vision of the festival.
