NWS confirms a third tornado occurred during July 15's severe weather
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Thursday night, the National Weather Service announced the confirmation of an EF 1 tornado which occurred during Michiana's severe weather on the night of Monday, July 15.
NWS officials say the estimated peak wind was 100 mph, with an estimated width of 75 yards.
They say it occurred between 11:32 p.m. EDT and 11:38 p.m. EDT that evening.
A survey taken of the of damage confirmed the tornado developed rapidly south of Waterford, west of N 850 W, and north of Snyder Road, according to the NWS.
They add the tornado intensified as it moved east northeast into the Dianne Court subdivision west of Wozniak Road.
NWS officials say further intensification of the tornado was noted to the east between Wozniak and Forrester Roads.
Officials say a private property there sustained widespread and severe tree damage with hundreds of mixed hardwood and softwood trees uprooted and/or snapped on the 20-acre property.
There was another concentrated area of tree damage noted between Forrester Road and Tiffany Drive, with many homes and outbuildings sustaining minor to moderate damage from trees falling.
Officials say the tornado then continued east, before quickly weakening and ending west of Johnson Road as a larger scale microburst overtook the tornado.
