NOW: Notre Dame quarterbacks compete for starting role in Riley Leonard’s absence

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Riley Leonard is gone and it's time for a new quarterback to take over in South Bend.

Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli said, "Competition brings the best out of people, and it really just makes everyone better. You know, competition is a good thing. The world is meant to be competitive."

This year it's not just two quarterbacks competing for the starting role this spring, it's three.

Angeli, Kenny Minchey, and CJ Carr are all vying for the role this year.

In 21 games, Angeli has passed for 772 yards, 10 touchdowns, and just 1 interception, but only rushed for a total of 36 yards in three seasons.

Meanwhile, Minchey is no stranger to QB competitions, as last season he did not win the starting or back up job.

He has shown glimpses of what he can do, as the consensus 4-star recruit passed for more than 5,000 yards with 52 touchdowns and a 63 percent completion rate.

Three high level quarterbacks is a good problem to have, and confidence continues to grow.

We may not find out who gets the starting role until the Irish open the season at Miami on Aug. 31.
