Niles Township opts out of allowing recreational marijuana businesses

NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Niles Charter Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously to block recreational marijuana businesses from opening up shop in the township.

The township held a public hearing on the topic during Monday's regular meeting before voting. The township's attorney presented a slideshow explaining more about the law and the township's decision.

The township first held a special public meeting on the ordinance last month, where dozens showed up in support of allowing recreational marijuana businesses.

Those in attendance at Monday's meeting say, board members seemed open to revisiting the issue down the road when the state finalizes regulations on recreational marijuana.
