NILES, Mich. -- Today is Juneteenth, a time to celebrate and recognize the heritage and culture of African Americans across the nation.
The city of Niles celebrates the federal holiday with its 3rd Annual Juneteenth Celebration today, hosted by Tattoo the World and SheBoss Oasis Retreats.
From 3-8pm, you can stop by Plym Park to learn more about the holiday and participate in fun activities and games.
There will be food, vendors, live entertainment from local artists, musicians and dancers and games for the kids.
The event also features the nominations of the Niles Juneteenth King and Queen for high schoolers, adults and seniors.
The theme for this year is 'Community Love, Heals a Community'.
Hosts hope that neighbors will walk away from the celebration with more knowledge and appreciation for the African American community and their past, and maybe even some new relationships formed as well!
For more information about the event, head to the organizer's Facebook page.
