NILES, Mich. – A Michiana factory specializing in lightweight medical accommodation equipment, including for isolation care, is exceeding yearly production averages in lieu of the coronavirus pandemic.
Innovative Products Unlimited said it is in rapid production levels to ensure more victims of coronavirus have a bed under them - and storage for doctors to put valuable medical tools.
“We’re hoping to make a difference,” IPU Director of Marketing Casey Becker said.
“We are hoping to fulfill our customers in hospitals and nursing homes out there that need our stuff. We’re just going to do what we can while we can.”
IPU sees truckloads of their products heading to the epicenters of the pandemic every day, Becker said.
“It kind of seems like everything we’re shipping is to the coasts right now,” Becker said.
“The California area, New York area, and Boston; the hardest hit areas. (It’s) like crisis mode now. It’s not just equipment; it’s everything.”
IPU’s factory manager said the facility is likely the busiest any company in Niles, Michigan will be any time soon.
We're just hoping that we can keep up and get the stock we need and we don't run out of things," factory manager Tony Graziani said.
"We're going to try our best. We'll just keep plugging along. We'll see."
