New restaurant opens in Mishawaka

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- It's official, Cheddar's Restaurant in Mishawaka is now open.

ABC 57 stopped by right as they unlocked the doors on Monday at 11 a.m.

The new restaurant on Main Street prides itself on fresh food made each day.

The casual dining facility just hired more than 200 people over the past couple weeks.

Employees have been busy training for Monday's big grand opening.

"We're excited about Notre Dame coming back to school today. So we're hoping that drives some extra guests in as well. It's a big day for us here, first time in Mishawaka. We knew this was a great site, coming in, being close to Notre Dame. But not too close. But at the same time being able to capture a very wide variety of guests and college students," said District Manager Theresa Heeren.

The menu features a wide variety of items, including fried catfish, shepard's pie, and a unique dish called "spasagna" - a mix between spaghetti and lasagna.
