MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Economic Development Corporation Michigan City announced a new renovation project at 711 Franklin St. will connect commercial and retail space to a proposed city plaza.

City officials say the spot will include first-floor spaces to lease, ranging in sizes from 860 to 1800 square feet.

The location will face an area meant for public gatherings, including concerts, festivals and shows.

“The plaza will create a space for friends and families to create memories. With the progress happening in Michigan City, we feel such a spot is a vital and important piece of the puzzle for the future growth of the downtown area,” said building owner Nazar Kryvko.

Officials say the project includes total renovation of the spaces, meaning water and sewage work, electric components, roofing, windows, HVAC, and a wood façade.

The plans also include separate glass overhead garage doors that will open onto a patio or deck for the upper units.

Kryvko says he hopes the development bolsters business opportunities downtown as he takes an active role in the future of Michigan City.

City officials say Kryvko is also behind other developments, including the former Red Head Building, 4411 Inn & Suites, long-term rental properties, and the Beachwood subdivision.
