Two Elkhart men charged in deadly South Bend shooting
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Prosecutors charged two 20-year-old Elkhart men in connection with a murder on South Carlisle Street in South Bend on Sunday. Police say the shooting took place following an argument over a necklace.
Eduardo Alvarado was charged with murder and a firearm enhancement in connection with the death of 29-year-old Bruno Lira Sanagustin, also of Elkhart.
A second person, Ernesto Arellano of Elkhart, was charged with assisting a criminal and battery.
Both men will appear in court on Wednesday.
According to court documents, the murder stemmed from a confrontation between Sanagustin and the two men outside a restaurant in the 400 block of South Carlisle.
Arellano told police Sanagustin stole a necklace from him a week prior and was upset about it.
Investigators say surveillance video depicts Arellano pinning Sanagustin against a vehicle as Alvarado hits him in the head with a gun.
After that, they say, video shows Alvarado shooting Sanagustin.
Investigators say the two drove away from the area after the shooting, tossing the gun that was used as they left, according to reports.
