MSP trooper rear-ends vehicle Tuesday night, investigation underway

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Michigan State Police Fifth District reports a trooper from the Niles post was responding to an emergency call when they were involved in a crash with another vehicle around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday.

The report states the trooper was driving a fully marked MSP patrol vehicle when they rear-ended a Nissan Rogue traveling north on S. 11th Street in Niles Township.

Police say neither lights or siren were activated at the time.

Authorities say the trooper and the driver were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and only minor injuries were reported.

MSP says the crash remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the county prosecutor's office once completed.
