UPDATE: Motorcyclist dead after driver fails to yield the right of way
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- UPDATE: Authorities report the motorcyclist, identified as 61-year-old Joseph Klein of Wakarusa, was pronounced dead at Elkhart General Hospital.
The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office and Elkhart County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the intersection of C.R. 17 and S.R. 120 for a crash involving a motorcycle and car around 5:31 a.m., Tuesday.
The report states a 2019 Chevy Trax, driven by 29-year-old Krystal Gunter of Elkhart, was traveling south on C.R. 17 in the left turn lane.
A Kawasaki ZG1400, ridden by a 61-year-old Wakarusa man, was traveling north on C.R. 17 at S.R. 120.
Authorities say Gunter failed to yield the right of way and struck the motorcycle head-on.
The 61-year-old motorcyclist suffered internal injuries and was taken to Elkhart General Hospital.
He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Gunter was cited for no insurance and failing to yield the right of way.
