SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- New Day Intake Center's Motels4Now Art Workshop will have an exhibition at the Civil Rights Heritage Center that opens with a reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on May 19.

The exhibition will then be open until July 31st, titled as, "Listen Up," will feature ten artworks by ten different artists. The pieces in the exhibition were curated by Motels4Now Art Workshop founder and facilitator, M.T. Giddings, to reflect the Civil Rights Heritage Center’s exploration of local histories of marginalization, resistance, and resilience. Each piece will be accompanied by a statement from each artist.

Civil Rights Heritage Center Assistant Director and Curator, George Garner, designed questionnaires for the artists to talk about their artwork and artmaking process. M.T. conducted the interviews and sent the results to George to edit into the accompanying statements. Artworks will be available for purchase but must remain on display through July 31st.

At the opening reception, a short film by photographer and documentarian, Myriam Nicodemus, will be screened at the event. The film is a work in progress that captures the artists of the Motels4Now Art Workshop speaking about artmaking in their own words.
