Mishawaka couple sentenced for 'catnapping' in Ohio
Elkhart County Jail: Michael Minix, Cathy Minix CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio -- A Mishawaka couple has been sentenced in connection to an incident at a cat show just over a year ago.
Cathy and Michael Minix allegedly attacked another couple at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea, Ohio and stole two of their cats on Oct. 4, 2025.
Cathy and Michael both entered a guilty plea agreement on Oct. 14, for charges of Aggravated Theft and two counts of Assault. Per the agreement, each of their remaining four counts of Robbery have been dismissed.
Cathy and Michael are now sentenced to one year of community control for each count, which acts as probation. Under these terms, the couple must each complete 20 hours of community service and must maintain no contact with the victims, among other things.
The victims said they purchased two Maine Coon breeds from Cathy and Michael on separate occasions prior to the incident at the cat show, spending a total of $8,000 for the animals.
The couple was arrested by the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office during a traffic stop in October of 2025 where both cats were found and later returned to the victims.
