New Buffalo Beach sees ten-foot waves, 40mph wind gusts
NEW BUFFALO, Mich. -- Friday evening, New Buffalo beach saw wind gusts up to 40mph, scattered rain, and sand flying on to the parking lot.
It was a picture-perfect day for weather chasers like New Buffalo resident Patricia Lauth.
“I come out for weather things,” Lauth said. “If it’s a nice day, I might skip it, but when there’s something going on with the weather, I am out here to watch it.”
The swings were pushing themselves; the fescue was wind torn and overcast clouds were towering over every grain of sand.
For other beach goers like Michael Conrad, the visit for him and his kid to experience the chaotic environment.
“We came here just to see how crazy the lake is, see the big waves, and get blasted in the face with sand,” Conrad said.
Whether it was taking pictures from the car or battling through the sand to get a glimpse of the whitecaps tearing through Lake Michigan, beach goers ABC57 spoke to were saying they got their money worth today.
