NOW: More than 140 arrests in DHS Operation Midway Blitz, officials say

GARY, Ind. -- As part of Operation Midway Blitz, Indiana State Police in northwest Indiana arrested 223 undocumented immigrants on highways near the Illinois state line, according to an announcement by Indiana Governor Mike Braun and Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem.

In a press release, officials say criminal activity included driving under the influence, drug trafficking, assault, child abuse, and burglary.

Gov. Braun included a statement in the press release, which reads:

“Indiana is the Crossroads of America, and that’s something we’re proud of — but it also means we must stay vigilant about those using our interstates for crime and thus endangering our communities. The safety of our state is our top priority, and we’ll keep working with our federal partners to keep Hoosiers — and Americans — safe.”

The press release also says more than 40 drivers had been issued Commercial Drivers Licenses.
