ELKHART, Ind. -- The students and staff of Monger Elementary School are set to temporarily relocate to the former Mary Beck Elementary building for the 2026-27 school year.

Elkhart Community Schools sent a letter to staff and families explaining this move is due to the ongoing restoration of Monger following a severe water line break in the spring which caused serious damage.

Officials say experts determined the remediation and repairs will take significantly longer than initially anticipated.

The district states the move will include teachers, support staff, administrators, and specialized programming, to ensure school culture, familiar faces, and daily routines remain intact.

Transportation routes and logistics to support the temporary relocation will be communicated directly to Monger families over the summer.

The upcoming school year begins on Aug. 13.
