La Porte community rallies for Sammy Strong Benefit, raising hope for injured deputy

LA PORTE, Ind. -- The ‘Sammy Strong’ Benefit was held to raise funds for La Porte deputy, Jon Samuelson, who was injured in the line of duty in May.

The event was stacked with different vendors, music, a silent auction, and a raffle, with all of the proceeds going to Samuelson and his family as they continue to navigate through these turbulent times.

Many family members of Samuelson showed up to support their loved one, including his aunt Kim Kubaszyk, a coordinator of the benefit.

“Everything that’s raised here today and raised probably throughout the whole community is going to go to the Sammy Strong Benefit, and it’s going to help him and his wife Quinn with whatever they need to help get through this hard time, so they don’t have to have the stress and worry,” Kubaszyk said.

Samuelson's family tells me they are fully focused on getting Jon through his physical therapy and back to full health so things can get back to normal.

Deer Creek Hunt Club in Three Oaks will also be hosting skeet shoot event also in support of Samuelson on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m..
