MLK celebratory breakfast at Century Center

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The community of South Bend honored Martin Luther King Jr. Monday morning at the Century Center for a celebratory breakfast.

The room was filed with laughter, smiles, and singing.

First District councilman, Canneth Lee, told ABC57 he has been a part of the event since he was in high school, and while the event grows every year, the message still remains the same.

The common phrase at the breakfast was, "today is an on day, not an off day".

Canneth Lee, First District councilmen, stated, "To see that our community has made a decision that we're committed to the cause of civil rights and remembering the legacy of Dr King, it really speaks volume of our community, South Bend and Misha Walker. If you look in the program, it has there's things at different locations throughout the month, and then we go from this to Black History Month, and so more dialog, more opportunity to talk."

Over 900 people showed up, in despite of the weather, making it a full house of celebration.
