UPDATE: Mishawaka Utilities restores power after major transmission line failure Thursday

ABC 57

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- As of 10 a.m. Thursday morning, Mishawaka Utilities is reporting a large part of southern Mishawaka is currently without power.

"This outage is affecting four substations impacting approximately 5,000 customers," a company spokesperson said. "Our initial assessment indicates that the issue appears to stem from the main feed provided by AEP. At this time, we do not have an estimated time of restoration. However, please be assured that our teams are working closely with AEP to diagnose the problem and implement a solution as quickly as possible."

At 12:30 p.m., Executive Director of Development and Governmental Affairs for the City of Mishawaka Matthew Lentsch sent out a message on the outages.

From Lentsch:

Dear Valued Stakeholders,

I am writing to inform you of a recent event that affected our power supply. Due to a major transmission line failure from AEP, we experienced an outage that impacted a significant portion of our service area.

Mishawaka Utility Electric (MUE) is proud to announce that power has been restored in less than two hours following a major transmission line failure from AEP. This rapid response is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our MUE and AEP teams.

Please note, however, that we are still addressing scattered outages caused by Sunday’s unprecedented storm. Our crews remain on the ground, working diligently to resolve these issues and restore power to every affected consumer.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we navigate these challenges. I will provide further updates as they become available.

Sincerely,
Matthew Lentsch, MPA
