MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The Mishawaka Common Council unanimously approved an ordinance that will raise water rates for city residents over the next five years Monday evening.
Under the plan, rates will increase by approximately 5.90 percent a year, or about $2.23 per year.
City officials told ABC57 News the increase is needed to fund improvements to aging infrastructure and to replace the Virgil Street plant.
Matthew Lentsch, Mishawaka’s executive director of development and governmental affairs, said construction at the Virgil Street plant is expected to begin in late fall.
