Michigan issues a statewide burn ban

Michigan State has issued a statewide burn ban according to the Department of Natural Resources.

Burn permits for open burning are suspended across the entire state.

This is to lower the potential for escaped fires so that staff can deal with more critical needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Open burning in some parts of Michigan may still be allowed in areas where the ground is still snow-covered.

In the northern Lower and Upper Peninsula, permits are issued through Michigan.gov/burnpermit.

Residents are encouraged to frequently check the website to see when restrictions are to be lifted.
