Michigan City Police investigating homicide at apartment complex

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- A man was shot and killed at an apartment complex on Southwind Drive Tuesday evening, according to the Michigan City Police Department.

Police said this is the second homicide in three days.

Police were called to the Garden Estates West apartment complex in the 900 block of Southwind Drive at 8:45 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived they found approximately 50 people in the area of building 13.

The victim was motionless on the ground so the officers began life saving measures until EMS arrived.

Once EMS arrived, they pronounced the victim, 27-year-old Darius Mitchell, deceased.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are unknown and no suspects have been identified.

Mitchell's death is being investigated as a homicide.
