NEW CARLISLE, Ind. -- Recovering from Hurricane Harvey will take months and most likely years for those living in southeast Texas, but volunteers from Michiana are wasting no time pitching in to help.
Kyle Ingle is with Healthy Happies, a smoothie shop in South Bend.
By Friday afternoon, he had just three more stops to go to pick up more donations before he took off for Houston.
He says they’ve received so many donated items from people all over our area he’s not sure how they’re going to get it all down to Texas.
“It’s been amazing to see what other businesses have done to support this. We had a couple locations to start off with doing the drive, and then it expanded there and we’ve had at least 15 other business that were accepting donations and they all brought them to us at Healthy Happies so it’s been incredible just seeing that aspect of our community,” said Ingle.
He says they have a truck with a trailer and a box full of food, water, toiletries, batteries and more.
They plan to get to Houston by Saturday.
If you’d like to donate to hurricane victims you still can.
Just text Harvey to 9-0-9-9-9 to give $10 to the American Red Cross.
