SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide unit is investigating the shooting death of a 9-year-old boy in the 1000 block of W. Rose Street early Sunday morning, dispatch confirms.
The victim has been identified as 9-year-old Tre’von Barnett.
The call was about an "unknown problem" and was called in at 12:26 a.m. according to dispatch.
Upon the arrival of officers, they found a 9-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Medics arrived on the scene to render life saving measures; however, Barnett did not survive and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim lived in the home with his mother and siblings.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning in Fort Wayne.
The County Metro Homicide Unit has not made any arrests and no charges have been filed.
Investigators are not seeking any suspects.
