SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was called out to the 1300 block of Liston Street on Monday morning to conduct a homicide investigation.
South Bend Police were called to the scene about a car running with someone inside, possibly sleeping around 8:25 a.m. Monday.
When officers arrived, they found a deceased 21-year-old man with apparent gunshot wounds in the vehicle and the vehicle still running in an alley in the 1300 block of W. Washington.
Metro Homicide was called out to take over the investigation.
No one has been arrested in connection with this incident.
An autopsy is scheduled for February 26 in Fort Wayne.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation should contact CMHU at (574) 235-5009 or Crime Stoppers.
"I was shocked because we don't have that kind of activity going on over here," said Corey McKinney, who lives just across the street.
"After I found out what happened I was devastated, like wow, they left the car running and left the body in the back of the car. That's crazy."
Walnut Street was blocked off from Washington to Colfax. The road opened around 6 p.m. Monday.
