Mayor James Mueller released from the hospital

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Mayor James Mueller was released from the hospital on Saturday after he had surgery to place two stents in the main artery of his heart.

The mayor's deputy chief of staff said he went to the doctor for a stress test on Friday where doctors discovered he had a left anterior descending artery blockage.

He was released from the hospital on Saturday.

Mueller did not have any symptoms of a heart attack before going to the doctor, but had been experiencing acid reflux over the last few weeks.

Mueller is resting at home and should return to the office next week.

Despite his illness, the mayor has remained in charge of the city and did not transfer power.
