SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- It was a homecoming celebration as former Indiana Mr. Basketball Markus Burton returned to his alma mater. But this time, he's not shooting hoops for himself; he's passing on his expertise to the next generation.
The camp focuses on basketball skills and instilling values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance, which defined Burton's own journey to success.
Known for his scoring prowess, Burton averaged 30.3 points per game in high school making him the leading scorer in Saint Joseph County history before making waves as one of Notre Dame's top guards.
Burton says when he watches the small players he's mentoring, he sees himself.
"I was once one of these kids looking up to Notre Dame basketball players on any basketball player. Now that I'm a leader for these young kids, they're looking up to me and that's means a lot to me," Burton said.
Although registration is closed for tomorrow's camp, Burton says he can't wait to host more camps in the future.
